The Boston Celtics lost another game to the Atlanta Hawks, 119-115, in overtime at the TD Garden. This was a game that Boston had won, however, they fell apart and blew it down the stretch.
With 20-seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Celtics are up three-points and inbounding the ball at the half court. Holiday breaks free and finds himself wide open in the paint with the ball, but rather than make the easy basket, he made a bad pass to Jaylen Brown resulting in a turnover.
If Holiday just turns and scores, it’s now a two-possession, five-point game with around 15-seconds left in the game.
A few moments later, it’s now only a two-point game with Jayson Tatum at the free throw line with :07.9 left in the game. Tatum missed his free throw and the ball went to Atlanta on the rebound, which saw Trae Young get up the court quickly with Holiday trailing right behind him.
It results in Holiday grabbing Young’s arm from behind, which looked very much like an intentional foul. The officials saw it that way, resulting in Young going to the free throw line to tie the game and force overtime.
The Celtics only scored 11-points in overtime and went on to lose the game. After the game, Holiday put the blame on himself and said he needs to execute better.
The Celtics have a quick turnaround, with the second four-game road trip of the month next on the schedule. Boston will play Golden State, both Los Angeles teams, and Dallas, making it four-games in six days.
On their first western conference road trip, Boston went 3-1 against Minnesota, Houston, OKC, and Denver.
Hopefully the Celtics can once again get back on track during this road trip.
Tipoff is at 5:00 PM on Monday from the Chase Center.
