The Boston Celtics didn’t add any players at the trade deadline after trading Jaden Springer to the Houston Rockets in exchange for a 2031 second round draft pick, but they need to.
Although the Celtics saved nearly $16 million in luxury tax penalties by trading Springer, it opened up an additional roster spot and gives Boston only 13 players rostered. They’ll need to make a move within the next two weeks to fill their roster.
An easy way for Boston to add a player to it’s roster is by simply promoting one of their two-way players, which is what GM Brad Stevens enjoys to do. If that’s the case, it would likely be Drew Peterson, he’s spent the most time in Boston this season.
If Stevens looks to the buyout market, he’ll be limited to players with previous contract that paid more than the $12.8 million mid-level exception.
Some buyout candidates/ free agents could include Kelly Olynyk, Daniel Theis, Javonte Green, and Kyle Anderson to name a few.
A move has to be made. Stevens will get it done.
