The Boston Celtics saw Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combine for 83-points last week against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Feb. 28 at the TD Garden.
Then, on Wednesday, only three-games later, it was Derrick White and Payton Pritchard who combined for 84-points against the Portland Trail Blazers back at the TD Garden.
White and Pritchard became the first pair of teammates in franchise history to each score at least 40-points in a game. Both White and Pritchard received water-showers from their teammates after their historic game.
They also became the first duo in NBA history to both score 40-points for the first time, the first duo to make 9+ threes each, and their 19 3-point attempts is the most ever by a duo in NBA history.
Here’s other news, notes, and takeaways from Boston:
- Jaylen Brown has made 30 assists over his last six games, dishing out eight assists in back-to-back games. He’s also shooting 52.6 percent on two-point shots this season. He’s also shooting a career-low 32.2 percent from behind the arc.
- Kristaps Porzingis has missed his fourth straight game with a non-Covid illness. He’s only played in five out of the last 10 games. He’s been at Celtics practice and shootaround, per Joe Mazzulla.
- Jrue Holiday is managing mallet finger on his right Pinky finger. Right now, surgery isn’t needed, according to Holiday.
- Sam Hauser tweaked his right ankle on Wednesday against Portland, forcing him to miss the second game of a back-to-back against the 76ers.
- Derrick White got elbowed in the face on Thursday night against Philadelphia in the first half, losing some of the teeth that he just had put in after the Finals. White went to the back, had the teeth glued back in and wore a mouth guard for the rest of the game.
- Celtics waived rookie second round draft pick Anton Watson after a slow season in Maine. He averaged 12.1 points per game on 46.1 percent shooting, which isn’t too bad at all. It was his 3-point shooting that ultimately wasn’t good enough for Boston at 33.3 percent.
- With an open two-way contract, Boston signed forward Miles Norris (6-foot-7, 7-foot-3 wingspan) to a two-year deal. He’s had a great season with the Memphis Histle, averaging 17.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 37.0 percent from behind the arc.
