The Boston Celtics find themselves updating their injury report to add Marcus Smart to it once again during this series. Smart landed ungracefully on his ankle early on in the third quarter, leaving him on the court in agony. The pain was so bad that Smart was helped to the locker room, not putting any pressure on his ankle.
It didn’t take too long for the camera crew to get in the back to see if Smart was OK or not. The TD Garden’s Jumbotrons were then showing Smart jumping and running for the trainers who are testing the durability of his ankle for the remainder of the game.
Within moments, Smart is seen on the jumbotron running towards the tunnel to make his way back to the court, in which he received a standing ovation from an exploding TD Garden.
Smart would go on to finish the game. He scored 16 points and issued seven assists in 36 minutes in Game 3. During the heat of the moment, it was definitely an adrenaline rush for Smart to be able to find the strength to return to play. He was in a ton of pain. You could hear his screams echo from the court all the way to the top of the 300’s section of the Garden.

Celtics head coach Ime Udoka said the following about his starting point guard:
“[He] has some swelling in his ankle. A pretty bad sprain. He finished the game but he’s gonna feel it. Getting worked on, getting treatment, and see how he feels tomorrow.”
Smart is still tagged as QUESTIONABLE and will be a gametime decision for Game 5. The treatment and pregame routine will be key in seeing how Smart looks.
