Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Brad Stevens’ only liked Tweet ever and what Luke Kornet thinks about it

When the Boston Celtics acquired Luke Kornet in March of 2021, I knew there was something about him that Brad Stevens found valuable. It could have been because he’s the tallest player on the team at 7’2” and can shoot the three ball. Nevertheless, my point has been proven a few times now that Kornet is technically back for his third stint with the Celtics and has been in and out of Maine as well.

In Maine, Kornet was used similarly to how Boston uses their big men in a lot of ways. He’s excellent out of the high-post and can initiate an offense like Robert Williams and Al Horford can. While in a powerful Maine offense, Kornet averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. On defense, his switchability is decent and he can guard pick-and-rolls well enough with his tall stature.

I came across a video of Kornet just playing around in open gym a few months back and I found myself rewatching this video endlessly. This tiny video led me to YouTube where I found myself watching Luke Kornet highlights for an hour. I was trying to figure out what it is about him that makes Stevens continue to re-sign and re-acquire the big man and I figured it out. Kornet can do a little of everything well and picks up what his teammates lack in other areas of his game.

When you watch the film and visualize what this team is going to look like, you see the value in Kornet and what he brings to the table. Call me crazy all you like, but Brad Stevens agrees with me and allowed the world to know when he liked my Tweet about Kornet, making it his only liked Tweet in his Twitter history.

At media day on Monday, Kornet was finally asked if he knew all the buzz that this Tweet created and he had gave the most perfect answer.
