The Boston Celtics are in the Bay Area for the first time since they lost the NBA Finals in June to play against the Golden State Warriors in a nationally televised game tonight at 8:30 PM.
In honor of Bill Russell, all NBA teams will retire his No. 6 jersey in honor of his legacy and contribution to the league. Youโll also see the No. 6 on the court near the scorers table in most arenas through the league as well.
The Warriors, however, will honor Russellโs legacy in a different way tonight in a pregame ceremony that will feature the local connection Russel has to his native Oakland, as well as a few words from his daughter, Karen, right before the game.
This ceremony will highlight the legacy of Russell in Oakland and San Francisco, his time in California prior to joining the Celtics.
This is a first class gesture by the Warriors and one that will show respect between the two organizations.
