The rivalry between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers is one of the greatest in NBA history. The two teams have met 12 times in the Finals, a record that’ll likely never be touched.
From the iconic days of Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, and John Havlicek for Boston, along with Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, and Gail Goodrich for LA, the NBA’s greatest games have been between these two teams.
The next era brought Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker toe-to-toe with Kobe Bryant Shaq, and Derrick Fisher.
It eventually evolved into Pierce with Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen, who went toe-to-toe with Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Fisher.
Now, it’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown going up against LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
It’s fair to say this rivalry is well documented and it’s special to the NBA. Well, Malcolm Brogdon, new to the Celtics, acknowledges such and is looking forward to being part of this rivalry.
“This is something I’ve watched on documentaries as a kid growing up – watching Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, watching the legends go against each other. So now to be a part of that rivalry is special.”
The Celtics and Lakers have played each other this season, but it wasn’t at the TD Garden, a building with so much history inside of it, that’s what Brogdon is looking forward to the most; being part of history.
