While the Boston Celtics are managing injuries and rest days, there’s been one player who’s remained solid through it all this season, and that’s none other than Derrick White.
White has perfect attendance this season and has made sure the Celtics stay on the right track over the last three weeks while Marcus Smart has been out with an ankle injury.
He’s averaged 20.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game with shooting splits of 50/47/87 over his last nine games.
Here are his stats during that span:
- vs MEM) 23 PTS, 10 AST
- (vs CHA) 33 PTS, 10 AST
- (vs PHI) 19 PTS, 6 REB
- (@ DET) 23 PTS, 7 AST, 7 REB
- (vs PHX) 19 PTS, 5 REB
- (vs BKN) 14 PTS, 10 REB
- (vs NOP) 14 PTS, 5 REB
- (vs CHI) 15 PTS, 4 AST
- (@ SAS) 23 PTS, 6 AST
On Friday night against the Hornets, White scored a career-high 33-points on eight 3-pointers made as he continues to make the right plays and make the right reads during his extended usage with Smart out.
White is producing an All-NBA Defensive caliber season, as he ranks second in the league with the most blocks by a guard. He has nine blocks over the last nine games and is leading the Celtics to victories in most of these games while Smart has been out.
He’s the Swiss Army knife. The utility player. The glue guy. Whatever analogy you want to use, that’s what Derrick White is for the Celtics. He’s been spectacular.
