Boston Celtics veteran all purpose guard Malcolm Brogdon agreed to be utilized as a sixth man when the Celtics traded for him in the offseason and he’s played that role admirably this season.
For the first time in his career, Brogdon hasn’t started a game yet this season and at this point it doesn’t look like he will. He’s hovered over a 50-40-90 season and has been the favorite for Sixth man of the year for most of the year until Immanuel Quickley suddenly entered the conversation.
Quickley leaped Brogdon in the race and is the current favorite for Sixth Man of the Year. Justin Termine was quick to show how Brogdon is averaging more points, rebounds, and assists while shooting higher percentages from the field, 3-Pointers, and the free throw line.
It certainly doesn’t make much sense for Quickley to have leaped Brogdon in this race. As Termine mentioned, Brogdon is better in every statistical category, in less minutes, than Quickley this season.
I believe at the end of the day, Brogdon will be the Sixth Man of the Year at the end of the season, but it’s definitely odd to see this leap in the race.
