Boston Celtics two-way center Neemias Queta has spent more time in Boston than in Maine this season. In fact, he’s been with Boston for 41-games this season, which is nearing the 50-game limit for two-way players.
The Celtics have a roster spot open and could easily promote Queta to the 15-man so that he can be available for Boston in the playoffs. But it’s still unknown what GM Brad Stevens plans to do with that spot, despite his strong feelings for Queta.
“We have to continue to evaluate everything for that last roster spot we have open. But Neemy’s done a great job, like, he’s done a great job.”
At the rate Boston retains Queta, he’s going to hit the 50-game limit before the regular season ends, leaving the Celtics to make their decision sooner than later in regard to Queta, which to be fair, they know what he brings to the table at this point.
Although Queta has been with Boston for 41-games, he’s only played in 24 of them, but it’s still counts as a game towards the rule for two-way players. He’s averaged 4.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game for Boston this season.
In an episode of The Grind by Gatorade, Queta said that it’s his job to be ready whenever his name is called.
The Celtics might not find a better option to add before the season ends than they do with Queta. He brings a different element to the big man position that they don’t have right now.
