Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics to have all-female broadcast

The Boston Celtics upcoming game against the Detroit Pistons will be an all-female broadcast on NBC Sports Boston and with a few pieces to the Connecticut Sun, in celebration of Women’s Empowerment Month.

The game will be called by Zora Stephenson, who’s does play-by-play for Big Ten Women’s Basketball for Peacock and she’s also a sideline reporter for Notre Dame Football and Big Ten Football for NBC.

Sitting alongside Stephenson will be Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston. Chin will be the in-game analyst for this game. She’s been covering the Celtics for over a decade now in a handful of ways. Abby is one of the handful of reporters who is with the Celtics just about everyday, home and away.

The other analyst will be DiJonai Carrington of the Connecticut Sun. Carrington was selected by Connecticut 20th overall in the 2021 WNBA Draft as a guard/forward out of Stanford. She’s preparing for her fourth season with the Sun.

The game reporter for this game will be Kayla Burton, who’s currently with ESPN. Burton has held a handful of roles all across NFL Network prior to joining ESPN. Burton is from Newton, Mass.

The studio host will be Amina Smith, who’s been with NBC Sports Boston for the past three years, as a host of their Celtics and Patriots pre and postgame coverages. She’s phenomenal at what she does and that’s why ESPN offered her a job, to which she accepted. This will likely be Smith’s final gig with NBC and the Celtics.

Sitting alongside Smith in the studio will be Jennifer Rizzotti, who’s president of basketball operations for the Connecticut Sun. She played four years at UCONN and then won two WNBA championships with the Houston Comets over her eight-year professional career. Rizzotti has also served as a head coach for multiple NCAA teams and was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

The studio analyst will be Ashley Battle, who’s the scout for the Boston Celtics and assistant general manager of the Maine Celtics. She played five-years at UCONN and six-years in the WNBA. You can often hear her doing color commentary for the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty.

This will be an awesome experience and is a great way to celebrate Women’s Empowerment Month while also working towards growing women’s basketball in general.

It’s worth mentioning that the Boston Celtics will host the Connecticut Sun for a regular season game in August this summer at the TD Garden.
