Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics Files: Blake Griffin announces his retirement

Blake Griffin announced his retirement after 13-years in the NBA. He played his final season for the Boston Celtics last year, appearing in 41-games.

Griffin was the first overall draft pick in 2009 and won Rookie of the Year. He’s a six-time All-Star, and made three All-NBA Second Teams and two All-NBA Third Teams. He also won the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest in a way that’ll never be forgotten; Griffin jumped over a Kia.

Griffin will end his career averaging 19-points per game on 49.3 percent shooting with eight rebounds and four assists. He started 692 of 765 games in his career.

In his final season, Griffin played an important role for Boston in regard to the team and the camaraderie in the locker room. He provided positive energy at all times and made sure the environment was always in great vibes.

He understood his role and always had an open invitation on the table to return back to the Celtics for this season, which looks to be another run to the Finals.

Griffin was awesome for Boston. Here’s the article I wrote when he first signed in Boston and how the team admires him, as that team was young enough to have watched him on TV in ‘09, with the exception of Al Horford.
