The Boston Celtics have the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. In their updated mock draft, experts Jonathon Givony and Jeremy Woo, see Boston landing 18-year-old French basketball player Pacôme Dadiet.
Dadiet has been a professional since he was 16-years-old, starting in Paris and landing in Germany with Ratiopharm Ulm. Although he’s still a bit raw, Dadiet has a high ceiling as an NBA prospect and will likely get drafted late in the first round.
The 6-foot-8 Frenchman forward averaged 6.4 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting. He also added 1.6 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game in 14.9 minutes per game as a regular rotation player.
Dadiet has many qualities that makes him an intriguing prospect. He has the size, mobility, intelligence, and he wants to attack the basket more often than not. He averages 58.3 percent on his 2-pointers, however, he only hit 31.1 percent from behind the arc.
He reads the floor well and can create plays for himself and his teammates. Dadiet is great with pivoting, shooting in the midrange, and he loves playing in the paint.
As great of an offensive player as Dadiet is, he’s just as great, if not better, on the defensive end. He’s a relentless dawg defender that can work around screens and he doesn’t get beat by his man.
Dadiet uses his long arms to his advantage and knows how to maneuver his body well around the court and in the paint specifically. He has great lateral mobility and can guard multiple positions with his size and skills.
He reads the game well on both ends of the court and should transfer to a solid NBA 3-and-D caliber player.
Dadiet will benefit greatly from a development year in the G League to allow him to accustom himself with the NBA game and sharpen some of his skills. Being on a two-way contract will allow him to float between the G League and NBA wherever he lands.
For Boston, Dadiet would be a great addition for a two-way contract. Sending him to Maine, the best team in the G League, will give him the best opportunity to sharpen his skills as a 3-point shooter and to learn how to be more of a productive player for Boston.
It’s worth noting that in their first mock draft, Givony and Woo had the Celtics drafting Juan Núñez, who is teammates with Dadiet on Ulm and is also an NBA prospect. It seems like the experts see Boston drafting an international player.
The Celtics have to open the wallets pretty big this summer to re-sign Jayson Tatum to a supermax contract extension, and for Derrick White, who is eligible for four-year extension worth $125,888,000, an average annual value of $31.5 million.
Dadiet would certainly give Boston depth to the wing position, but not necessarily anytime soon. If he does land with Boston, he’s most likely to be on a two-way contract to start his career.
