Moments before Baylor Scheierman heard his name called on draft night, he answered a call expecting it to be from an NBA team ready to draft him, but it ended up being a FaceTime call from his friend and now former teammate Fransisco Farabello.

It was just about an hour after Farabello called before the next call Scheierman would receive would be from the Boston Celtics, letting him know ahead of time that he’s going to be the next name called and to pay attention for the moment on TV.

With his family and friends at the Let It Fly Sports Bar in Omaha, Nebraska watching at a Draft Party, Scheierman saw his dreams come true to a roar of a celebrating crowd of over 100 people.

Celtics GM Brad Stevens said that Scheierman improved a lot from his previous workouts in 2022 when he ultimately withdrew his name and committed himself to Creighton. Stevens said “he’s a basketball player now” when detailing the differences from then and now.

Scheierman will be on Boston’s 15-man roster as a first round pick and will have the opportunity to showcase himself in a couple of weeks with the Celtics at Summer League. He could also have a similar start to his career as Jordan Walsh did by being assigned to Maine.

The Celtics feel confident in Scheierman and they’re happy he was available to them 30th overall.
