The Boston Celtics are continuing business as usual while there’s an elephant in the room in regard to future ownership of the team as Wyc Grousbeck and his family intends to sell their majority shares of the team.
Boston is bringing back 13 of 15 players from last year’s championship team, except Oshae Brissett and Svi Mykhailiuk, who will test free agency but could still re-sign with Boston since they’re one of their own free agents- it’s likely not going to happen though.
Since winning the championship three weeks ago, GM Brad Stevens re-signed Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Xavier Tillman, Neemis Queta, Luke Kornet, and exercised the team option on Sam Hauser.
Stevens also signed his first first-round draft pick in Baylor Scheierman, which gives him a roster spot and makes 14 players on the roster for 2024-25.
The Celtics also drafted forward Anton Watson in the second round out of Gonzaga. Stevens is high on Watson and he will likely earn a two-way contract after the summer.
Here are other notes and takeaways from the Celtics:
- Summer League team will include: Jordan Walsh, Baylor Scheierman, Anton Watson, Jaden Springer, Drew Peterson, JD Davison, Tristan Enaruna, Ron Harper Jr.
- Jrue Holiday is practicing with Team USA.
- Jayson Tatum held his annual JT Elite Camp.
- Jaylen Brown and Tacko Fall went to visit Prince Nasser.
- Sam Cassell as lead assistant coach.
- Celtics and Joe Mazzulla build his staff by adding God Shammgod Jr. and Da’Sean Butler- both have connections to Mazzulla.
- Former Celtics Evan Fournier and Dennis Schroder got into a fight during Olympic play.
