After playing 93-games en route to an NBA title with the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum hosted his annual JT Elite Camp in Las Vegas ahead of the NBA’s Summer League.
Although he was in Las Vegas, the same place Team USA met for their first run of practices, Tatum was excused for personal reasons and will miss the team’s first two official practices.
Tatum is set to join Team USA on Monday for the team’s third practice and expected to play in the first game on Wednesday against Team Canada, one day before leaving for Abu Dhabi.
After the team plays two games in Abu Dhabi, they go to London for two more games before finally landing in Paris for the Olympics. This journey will total five weeks as Tatum goes for his second gold medal.
Tatum’s had an incredible year. He finished with a championship, signed a five-year supermax contract extension worth $314 million, and is positioned to win his second Olympic gold medal.
In the last Olympics, Tatum finished second on the team in scoring with 15.2 points per game on 49/45/72 shooting splits and totaled seven assists, seven blocks, and three steals.
