Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics Files: Watson, Scrubb, Brown, Other Notes & Takeaways

The Boston Celtics signed second round draft pick Anton Watson to their final available two-way contract. He will join JD Davison, who’s on his third two-way deal, and Drew Peterson, who’s on his second.

Watson shined during Summer League, which is likely why the signing was delayed, as it was being determined if he should be in Maine or in Boston. He averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists per game while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from behind the arc this summer.

With Boston having the available roster spot, it was fair to assume that GM Brad Stevens was evaluating if Watson should have the final spot in Boston.

Watson is an all around great player. He’s able to play and defend three through five, great at dribble handoffs, and pick-and-rolls. He brings youth, size (6-foot-8), and versatility to both ends of the court. He’s a great addition to the team.
