Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics Linked to Former Summer League Standout, Curtis Jones

With Summer League set to begin, this is the time for the Boston Celtics to evaluate their draft picks and the depth of players they invited to see if there could be a diamond in the rough that standouts as a player who could earn a two-way contract or a roster spot for the Maine Celtics.

While in Las Vegas for Summer League, the Celtics will also use this time to evaluate and study other players around the league, again, in search of the diamond in the rough that could become a contributor some time down the road. With that, it’s worth noting that Boston has tremendous results with developing their players in Maine.

That said, it’s speculated that the Celtics are interested in adding second-year guard Curtis Jones, who’s reported to become a free agent after one season with the Denver Nuggets. After a standout Summer League in 2025, Jones signed a two-way contract and was one of Denver’s top prospects last season.

Last year, Jones produced 14.4 points per game while shooting 54.9% from the field. He added 4.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 20.2 minutes. The game that put Jones on the map was against the Lakers where he finished with 22-points, five rebounds, and eight assists.

Jones went on to be a standout in the G League with 20.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game on 38/34/84 shooting splits. He finished with three double-doubles and had a 40-point game and a 13-assist game.

He was called up to the Nuggets for 10-games during his rookie year, averaging 2.9 points on 40.7% shooting from the field and 33.3% from behind the arc in under nine minutes per game.

On a recent episode of the Flagrant Howls Podcast, it was said with confidence that the Celtics are showing “all sorts of interest” in adding Jones, per Darren Wolfson.

“I thought he had a good run as a rookie for the Denver Nuggets, but it sounds like Denver is not bringing him back. He’s a free agent. The Boston Celtics have all sorts of interest in Curtis Jones.”

Jones is a 6-foot-3, 195 lbs. shooting guard out of Iowa State that flourished in Summer League and in the G League. He’s a shooter that has playmaking skills and great defensive instincts. He’s 24-years-old and can be a two-way player as a solid depth addition for a team.

The Celtics positioned themselves to retool their roster after they traded away the franchise cornerstone Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. GM Brad Stevens was honest in saying that the restrictive measures of these aprons are forcing them to restructure the way they’re able to build rosters.

As Boston undergoes this new era of their franchise, Jones could be the under-the-radar addition that the Celtics need.
