Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Celtics Top Rookie Has Impressive Debut in Summer League

Boston Celtics top rookie draft pick Chris Cenac Jr. (No. 27 overall) had an impressive Summer League debut and showcased what he can bring to the table in his first opportunity to do so.

He finished with 14-points (5-of-13 FG, 2-of-4 3PT), 10 rebounds, four blocks, and one steal in 29 minutes off the bench. He also had the third-highest plus-minus for the Celtics at +8 and he hit the game-tying 3-pointer, sending the game to overtime.

Throughout the game, Cenac (6-foot-11, 240 lbs) displayed his athleticism and how well he maneuvers around the court. His 7-foot-5 wingspan covers space and to block shots with ease.

Cenac has a great repertoire to his game for a big man. He has a great hop-step and a nice shooting touch from the midrange and high post. He’s a rim runner in every sense of the meaning and Boston needs that type of player on the floor.

On the final play of regulation for Boston, Cenac remained active from the left corner. In this sequence, he worked the glass as Boston grabbed two offensive rebounds. He hustled back to his spot and was given an opportunity, but he passed out of it as he recognized it wasn’t a clean look.

After crashing from the left corner to get a rebound, Cenac read the floor and retreated back to the corner for a clean look. From there, he hit the game-tying 3-pointer.

The 19-year-old still has some sharpening to do to his game, but there is definitely something there for him to be a contributor for the Celtics in his first season.
