The Boston Celtics selected two high-upside players in the NBA Draft that could make an impact this season in forwards Chris Cenac Jr. and Dillon Mitchell. Although it’s only Summer League, the framework for how they’ll contribute is visible and it’ll be important for the team moving forward.
This summer, Cenac showcased himself as a two-way player. He started with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double and had four blocks and made the game-tying corner 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. In the third game, Cenac had a 16-point game with another four blocks.
At 6-foot-11, 240 lbs., and a 7-foot-5 wingspan, Cenac has the frame to be a dominant scorer in his career, but he’s not there yet at only 19-years-old. That said, I think he’ll develop more into a shooter with experience at this level, but with his off-the-charts athleticism, he’ll be most useful scoring above the rim.
Cenac’s defensive prowess might be what gets him on the court in his rookie season. He should be impactful as a rim protector. He has nine blocks through three games this summer; he had 18 blocks total last year as a freshman at University of Houston.
I don’t anticipate Cenac being on a two-way contract this season.
Other notes and takeaways from the last week:

- Joe Mazzulla shares MMA training video.
- Brad Stevens and Allison Feaster take in Game 3 of Summer League together.
- John Tonje’s case for another two-way contract.
- Amari Williams shows signs of improvement in his second Sumer League with Boston.
