The Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and Boston Red Sox have all been connected to each other in more ways than just their on-field success in recent memory.
When the Celtics acquired Derrick White from the Spurs at the trade deadline, it became known that he has a connection to Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec. In fact, Dalbec texted White when he heard he was being traded to Boston out of the excitement he was feeling. Why?
Dalbec and White went to the same high school and were both teammates and classmates at Legend High School in Colorado.
“Yeah, it’s crazy. Two kids from Legend, brand new high school. We were the first two graduating classes. So two kids now in Boston. It’s pretty crazy. I’m super excited for him to get out here. I already have his jersey so I’m going to have to send him a Boston one because I sent the San Antonio one so it’d be perfect.” – Derrick White
Another connection is between Marcus Smart and Patriots defensive back Jalen Mills.
Mills recently made it known that he and Smart went to the same middle school and once played on the same teams with each other.
“You know what’s crazy? I actually went to school with Marcus Smart in Dallas in like fifth and sixth grade. Everybody knew back then that he was going to be a pro in basketball because he was dunking back then. He ended up transferring. So we’re actually both from the same part of town back at home.”
The connection between the different players, on different teams, and in different sports is pretty cool to say the least. They don’t call us the “city of champions” for nothing.
