The Boston Celtics updated their injury report today and Malcolm Brogdon is the newest, but not most surprising, addition to the list for Friday against the Denver Nuggets.
Brogdon left Boston’s last game against the Pistons due to right hamstring tightness, to which the team already announced he’ll be OUT for Friday’s game against the Nuggets.
The Celtics have the most productive bench in the NBA and it’s largely due to Brogdon embracing his new role as a sixth-man and leading the second unit to success.
Without Brogdon, Derrick White should be leading the bench group as the main facilitator and I’d like to think we’ll see Payton Pritchard get some run in on Friday as well.
Injuries have slowed Brogdon down throughout his career. He’s missed a significant amount of games each year since he joined the Pacers, playing 54 games in 2019-20, 56 games in 2020-21, and only 36 games in 2021-22.
Joe Mazzulla said the team will continue evaluating Brogdon to see how he feels. Being cautious this early in the season is the right route for the Celtics to be taking. Brogdon is too valuable for what the Celtics are trying to accomplish this season.
