Al Horford has spent five seasons with the Boston Celtics, starting every game he’s been available for during both stints in Boston at 313 games as being the main leader of this team on and off the court.
At 1.2 blocks per game over this five-year span, Al has 378 career blocks in a Boston uniform, ranking him ninth all-time in Celtics history, which happens to be a record he’s currently in a tie with Cedric Maxwell.
Maxwell spent the first eight seasons of his career in Boston and became MVP in the 1980-81 NBA Finals. Maxwell averaged 0.6 blocks for his career while playing in Boston, which was the most in his career.
Horford’s been expected to lift the Celtics to newer and higher heights, and by not bringing in positive reinforcements to the position, the expectations are increasing for the 37-year-old Horford as this season progresses and he’s absolutely crushed the opportunity he’s been given.
Realistically, Horford can leap into the Celtics top seven all-time for most blocks by the time he hangs ‘em up for good.
