The Boston Celtics have a lot riding on ol’ reliable Al Horford next season. The veteran forward-center combo enters his 16th NBA season at 36 years-old and is poised to pick up where he left off last year.
Horford was used heavily last season. He played in 69 games and averaged 29.1 minutes per game in the regular season with .467/ .336/ .842 shooting splits.
The veteran big man held his own throughout the regular season and still turned it up a notch on both ends of the court in the playoffs last year. He’s still incredibly versatile and can defend 1-5 as one of the best in the league.
Horford was the most targeted isolation defender at 2.5 possessions per game last year, allowing 0.72 points per possession and locking up defenders to 33.8 percent shooting.
Truth be told, the Celtics have a lot riding on the shoulders of Horford this season while expecting to fully load-manage him.
That said, they still haven’t addressed the center position outside of signing Luke Kornet and expect to fill out their roster with players currently with them in training camp.
We’ll have to wait and see if Horford can run it back in the same productive manner as he did this past season.
I’ll just say this: my money is on Horford.
