Without any coaching experience, former Boston Celtics player Glen Davis is now the head coach of the Charlotte Purple Jackets, a pro team in The Basketball League.
Davis was on the Celtics’ ‘08 championship team and was a legitimate role player in spurts during this season.
It’s fair to say Davis has been in the headlines more off the court than he did when he was on the court, as he’s dealt with a ton of legal troubles for various things, including fraud against the NBA.
It’ll be interesting to see what he’s able to do with this team. I’ve never looked at Davis as being a basketball minded savant in any way, but we’ll see what he does.
It’s also fair to say that The Basketball League is an up and coming “pro” league that’ll benefit from having a former NBA champion and someone with a well-known profile as Big Baby, as a head coach in their league.
Hopefully he’ll do great things.
