The Boston Celtics updated their injury report prior to tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks at the Fiserv Forum.
For the Celtics
Marcus Smart will make his return to the court tonight for the first time in about a month. The ankle injury he suffered over three weeks ago in Toronto is the same ankle he injured in the playoffs last year. It took most of the summer for Smart to get back to the court. It’s surprising to see him return one game before the All-Star break but he’s back tonight!
Jaylen Brown is going to miss a few weeks with a facial fracture he suffered in Wednesday’s games vs the 76ers. Brown took an elbow to the face from his own teammate Jayson Tatum, as Boston’s duo went up for the same rebound.
Jayson Tatum is off the injury report, however, Brad Stevens shared yesterday that he would not be playing vs Detroit ahead of the All-Star break.
Grant Williams has a somewhat undisclosed right shoulder and elbow injury. It’s been suggested that Grant is dealing with an injury for a couple of weeks now. He hasn’t missed a game since Oct. 28. It’s worth monitoring as the All-Star break is around the corner.
Al Horford typically doesn’t play the second night of a back-to-back, regardless if he played in the first one or not. He did not play in Milwaukee on Wednesday but he said he’ll be active tonight vs Detroit.
Derrick White is the newest member of the injury report. He hasn’t missed any games this season but last night in Milwaukee he took a shot to the side of the head. He then stayed in Milwaukee while the team flew back to Boston so he can see an ear specialist. His status for tonight is in question.
Robert Williams only played 13 minutes last night in Milwaukee while the Celtics were down four starters. Mazzulla didn’t have an answer as to why, other than he just switched things up. Rob’s status is uncertain tonight in Boston vs Detroit.
Mike Muscala is OUT with ankle injury management after logging over 40 minutes in Milwaukee last night.
For the Pistons
Cade Cunningham is OUT with a lower leg injury after having successful surgery to repair a stress fracture to his left tibia.
Nerlens Noel will not be active vs Boston due to personal reasons.
Marvin Bagley III is OUT with a hand injury.
We’ll continue to monitor the injury report for both teams leading up to tipoff at 7:30 PM tonight in Boston.
