Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum explains Grant Williams and final play vs Utah

With five seconds left, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla called a timeout to draw up a potential game-winning play after Talen Horton- Tucker turned the ball over.

Mazzulla drew a dribble-hand-off designed for Jayson Tatum to take the final shot of the game off the inbound from Malcolm Brogdon to Grant Williams.

For some reasons, the play malfunctioned, leaving Grant to take matters into his own hands. He decided to drive to the hoop in between two Jazz players — Walker Kessler and Kelly Olynyk — being blocked by Kessler and ending the game.

After the game, Mazzulla said the play was deigned for Tatum on a DHO to take the final shot.

Tatum talks about the final play here:

There’s some obvious frustrations directly after this lost, but Tatum’s comments are interesting to say the least.

The Celtics play again on Tuesday night in Sacramento, the final game of this current six-game, two-week long road trip.
