Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

B/R Suggests Possible Celtics-Spurs Trade for Jaylen Brown

With the NBA offseason in process, it’s another offseason of potential trade rumors and scenarios for Boston Celtics superstar, Jaylen Brown.

With reports of the Celtics submitting a trade offer to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, it would certainly have to include Brown.

Although it’s still a bit of an unknown if the Celtics will move on from Brown to upgrade their roster, a new team is surfacing as a possible destination for Brown, and it might be worth considering for the Celtics.

NBA Bleacher Report writer Zach Buckley suggests that the San Antonio Spurs could be interested in trading for Boston’s five-time All-Star after losing to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

“Brown, an All-NBA second-teamer, is arguably the best wing on the market. Now, ‘on the market’ might be overselling his availability, but his future in Boston has been an actual talking point. While the Celtics would certainly want a fortune for him, the Spurs, who are rich with both draft capital and ascending prospects, are one of the few franchises perfectly positioned to pay an exorbitant price.”

Although the Spurs have some means to make the trade work, it would be a bit of a surprise to see it done only because San Antonio would have to dig into their young, ascending, and promising core group for this to work.

In addition to multiple first round picks, the Spurs would have to include Devin Vassell, Dylan Harper or Stephon Castle to make it work. However, those pieces might be too rich for San Antonio to part with.

Although this seems unlikely, pairing Victor Wembanyama with a bona fide player like Brown is appealing. After the season Brown had, and with how the Spurs fared in the Finals, perhaps Brown could have pushed them over the hump to win it all.
