Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics Roster Reset After Jaylen Brown Trade

When the Boston Celtics take the court for the 2026-27 season, it’s going to look and feel like a completely different team than what we’ve been accustomed to for the last ten years.

With the longest tenured player no longer in Boston after Jaylen Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a shocking exchange for Paul George, two first round picks and two second round picks, the Celtics are in the midst of a roster reset that’s already starting to form for this season.

At the start of free agency, the Celtics signed veteran guard Mike Conley Jr., and big man Mitchell Robinson, which address immediate needs in areas that the team struggled in last season with depth in the frontcourt and at guard.

The addition of George gives Boston a veteran wing to pair with superstar Jayson Tatum. He’ll essentially just replace Brown in the lineup and in the books as he has a similar contract to Brown-the difference between the two is age, durability, and production.

George has only played more than 50-games in a season twice in the last five years. He hasn’t scored more than 20 points per game since the 2023-24 season and he’s 36 years old.

Celtics Roster Update

Here’s a look at the Celtics roster after trading Brown and adding George, Robinson, and Conley.

The Celtics will need their reshaped young core to step up this season, with Baylor Scheierman and Hugo Gonzalez likely to take on a larger role. Not to mention that Jordan Walsh should hopefully take another step in his progression.

Celtics 2026-27 Contracts

The most recent update on Boston’s contracts is re-signing Queta to a 4-year, $56 million extension. It’s worth mentioning the Celtics have reportedly “kicked the tires” on a potential trade with New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.

I still think there’s another move for the Celtics to make to sustain success this season and not waste a year of Tatum’s prime trying to rebuild into a contender.
