Marcus Smart is the longest tenured player on the Boston Celtics and has been waiting for this moment for seven years now- a chance to raise Banner 18 to the TD Garden rafters.
For eight years, Smart has played for the most historic franchise in the NBA. Playing underneath 17 championship banners for the Celtics and 6 for the Bruins for his entire career, the motivation is there for Smart to put one of his own up there too.
In Game 1 of the Finals, I thought Smart was nothing short of spectacular. He finished with 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and 4-7 from deep and also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.
Itโs worth mentioning that Smart played smart (no pun intended) and only committed one foul in 30 minutes.
Smart has proved to be the real-deal for the Celtics this season and we should all be lucky to have him in Boston.
