The Boston Celtics appear to have done everything by the book in regards to their former head coach Ime Udoka and the situation he caused himself and the team during the summer months last season by violating the team’s code of conduct policy.
Since then, the Celtics have essentially moved on from Udoka and should be looking to upgrade Joe Mazzulla from the “interim” title to the actual head coach of the Celtics. Understandably so, it’s much easier said than done, however.
In the aftermath of it all, we saw Celtics Governor Wyc Grousbeck and team President Brad Stevens hold a joint press conference that brought tears to Stevens’ eyes when talking about how the situation has negatively impacted so many “talented women” that work in the Celtics organization.
Further proving the point, the Celtics have made it pretty clear that Udoka will never work for them in any capacity ever again. It was the right decision to make and it shows the women employees that they are valued in the organization.
However, that’s not good enough for Nia Long, who is (or was) Udoka’s fiancé. She recently called out the Celtics for not checking up on her, essentially saying that the Celtics are fraudulent when it comes to “protecting women”, as she tells the Hollywood Reporter.
“If you’re in the business of protecting women — I’m sorry, no one from the Celtics organization has even called to see if I’m OK, to see if my children are OK. It’s very disappointing.”
I have to disagree with Long on this for the reasons I already listed above. It’s shocking that she’s calling out the Celtics like this.
