Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Should Tatum accept 3-Point contest invite?

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is in line to make his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance at the event in Utah in February. In fact, Tatum could even start for the second time in his career during this weekend.

Thereโ€™s a possibility of Tatum participating in other events throughout All-Star weekend, that being the 3-Point contest, which BRโ€™s Chris Haynes reported Tatum was invited to be part of.

โ€œBoston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has been invited to participate in the 3-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City. When reached by text, Tatum confirmed the invite but said he hadn’t yet made a decision.”

Tatum is leading the Celtics with 30.6 points per game on a career-low 34.7 percent from behind the arc this season. So it was a surprise to see him be invited to the event. But it makes sense, as heโ€™s a top player and MVP candidate this season.

In 2021, Tatum participated in the 3-Point contest that Steph Curry went on to win.

The Celtics havenโ€™t seen a 3-point contest winner in 13-years since Paul Pierce won, and before that it was 22-years since Larry Bird won three in a row from 1986-1988, winning the first three 3-Point contests ever.

Itโ€™ll be interesting to see if Tatum partakes in this event. As he said the other day, he has โ€œa lot of s*** going onโ€ in regards to a potential injury to his hand and fingers, which he recently said he needed to have taped together to get through a game.

He also expressed the taping to his fingers is why he probably missed some shots during the last game in Brooklyn, where he finished 2-of-10 from deep.

The 3-Point contest is taking place on Feb. 18.
