Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Weekend Notes and Takeaways

After the Boston Celtics defeated Golden State in overtime on Thursday, they started a three-game road trip starting in Toronto on Saturday evening.

The Celtics extended their winning streak to nine games in Toronto, however it was at the expense of Marcus Smart, Rob Williams, and Derrick White, who all left the game and didn’t return in the second half.

Jayson Tatum didn’t make the trip to Toronto due to wrist management, the first game we’ve seen him take off this season for management purposes. Tatum’s had his wrist and fingers taped and wrapped for weeks and through multiple games now. He will be in Florida with the team for next two games.

Jaylen Brown returned to the lineup vs the Warriors after missing the last three games with an adductor injury. Brown has put on a show since he’s returned to the court and has shown he can carry the Celtics without Tatum in certain games.

Malcolm Brogdon continues to shine as the sixth man for Boston, averaging 19.8 points per game over his last five games. He ranks third in the NBA for most points off the bench this season.

Payton Pritchard continues to prove his value on the Celtics and has even leaped Sam Hauser in the rotation. He hit four key 3-pointers and lifted the Celtics to victory in Toronto on Saturday.

Grant Williams is still yapping at the referees on most plays, but his production is invaluable to Boston on both ends.

The Celtics will be in Florida for their next two games, playing the Magic and Heat on back-to-back days, Monday and Tuesday.

With the uncertainty of Rob Williams’ status, there’s room to alter Al Horford’s rest schedule during back-to-back games. We’ll know more after morning shoot around in Orlando on what the Celtics plan to do.
