Opening Up The Files On The Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics: Report links Nerlens Noel to Celtics

The Boston Celtics are looking to make a move or two at the trade deadline and everyone knows it. One potential move that was recently reported is Boston making an offer to Detroit for veteran center Nerlens Noel.

Noel was traded to the Pistons during the offseason by the Knicks in an attempt to free up the cap space needed for Jalen Brunson.

While in New York, Noel had one of the best seasons of his career and helped the Knicks reach the playoffs in 2020-21. He finished the season averaging 5.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 61.4 percent from the floor.

The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III has sources that say Boston has already inquired about Noel.

“Per league sources, the Heat, Nuggets, Mavericks, 76ers and Celtics have recently called the Pistons and inquired about Noel.”

Noel is in the second year of a three-year deal, with the final year being a team-option. He’s only played in 13 games for Detroit this season, as the team is focusing on rebuilding with their younger core players.

Detroit has elected to give a majority of the big man minutes to rookie Jalen Duran and Isaiah Stewart.

Noel is averaging 2.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor.

There’s other teams in the Eastern Conference that are making a play at Noel, but it’s fair to say that Noel will be out of Detroit by the deadline.

Perhaps it’ll be Boston.
