The Boston Celtics might’ve missed out on trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they’re still looking for a trade to retool their current roster and future by trading Jaylen Brown.
Brian Windhorst joined Rich Eisen on The Rich Eisen Show on Monday, where he expressed that the Celtics are still heavily motivated to get a deal done for Brown before the season.
“They’re offering him everywhere, Rich. I mean, I’m not in the Celtics’ offices, so I can’t say for sure, but I have heard the Celtics attached — I’m not even gonna put a number on it because then I’ll have to defend that number — but many, many teams.”
Windhorst mentioned that with Antetokounmpo being off the table, it’s forced Boston to have to course correct their plans for the offseason.
“That tells me, number one, they’re very motivated to trade him. And number two, that they’re a little bit outside their plan. Because again, their plan seems to have changed.”
For what it’s worth, Windhorst believes the Celtics are going to move Brown, but he believes it’s a move that is furthering their chances of winning a championship.
“I have been told they have been asking for three, four, five first round picks for Brown. Which leads me to believe that they’re examining a short-term future where they’re not trying to win a championship. Because you don’t take an All-NBA player and trade him for primarily draft picks and say we’re gonna be the same team.”
If the Celtics are going to trade Brown, it’s likely to be soon. NBA Free Agency starts tomorrow and teams are going to be ready to complete their rosters.
