The Boston Celtics only made one selection in the 2022 NBA Draft just a few days ago, drafting JD Davidson out of Alabama.
However, Davidson will not be the only rookie from this year’s Draft playing for the Celtics in Las Vegas this summer.
The Boston Celtics will have undrafted rookie Trevion Williams for Summer League
Arguably the best big man in this draft did not hear his name called on Thursday night. That name is none other than Trevion Williams out of Purdue and you better not forget it.
Williams averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game last season, en route to earning Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. He was also named All-Big Ten First-Team in 2021 as a junior.
Throughout his time at Purdue, Williams ranked as one of the top players in the Big Ten in just about every statistical category, including assists which is impressive for a big man at any level.
It’s no secret the Celtics need to revamp their center position. With Robert Williams still dealing with his knee injury post-surgery, there isn’t much depth behind him- which has been an ongoing issue for years in Boston.
Al Horford is aging and needs to be used limitedly moving forward. Grant Williams is a great defender but is undersized for the position in regards to how important it is in Boston’s offense.
Daniel Theis is a veteran to have on the bench, however his contract is quite hefty for what he offers.
There’s an extremely high chance that if Trevion Williams has a strong showing in Summer League, the Celtics will be intrigued enough to offer him a contract of some sort.
They need to revamp this position and T-Will can be a great starting point in doing so. He’s 6’9” with a 7’3” wingspan and incredible court vision for a big man.

[…] Trevion Williams is by far the most exciting player that I’m looking forward to seeing play in Summer League. Williams was one of the best passing big men in the country last season and is efficient in the paint. He could become a great backup for Rob Williams.
